The setting is beautiful, and most of the jokes land there
Synopsis
When maple syrup farmer Ruth Landry finds her livelihood under attack from greedy competitors who were once her friends, she hatches a plan to get revenge and shake up the industry. It’s loosely based on the 2011-2012 theft of $18 million worth of maple syrup from a storage facility in Quebec; five people were sentenced to prison.
Margo M and Chris D are ham-fisted
Both a strength and a weakness of the show, sometimes adding to the humor and sometimes taking away from the film’s authenticity. A lot of Mike’s actions were really questionable, and the confrontations between the characters felt repetitive.
That’s why the series sometimes feels a little undercooked
I think what would have really helped is that Ruth and Mike’s characters were fleshed out a lot more in the earlier episodes, so it’s only 8 episodes total. Ep5 featuring Jamie Lee C is clearly the highlight of the entire series.
