I just finished the first episode

In the timeless town of Macondo, seven generations of the Buendía family grapple with love, oblivion, and the inevitability of their past and fate. This is Netflix’s most expensive Latin American project to date, with Colombian groups and indigenous communities building props and sets for the series.

This could have been really terrible, but it’s not

It’s always a challenge to translate inner thoughts, fears, doubts, and internal reactions to things like visions! The dubbing is pretty good in English, but I switched to Spanish with English subtitles and it felt more comfortable.

I’ve read the book three times in my life and it’s okay

I’m glad they take their time on the table because it’s important to set the scene and even then it feels a bit rushed, but with sixteen episodes I’ll live with that. No expense was spared on the locations and sets and that helps set the mood.

No censorship, please!

I can’t wait to see the questionable ethnic stuff! “One Hundred Years of Solitude” is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.

In war-torn times, a poor woodcutter and his wife live in a great forest. One day, the woman finds and rescues a baby girl, bringing irrevocable change to the lives of the couple, and those whose paths the child will cross..

It tells a story happening in Poland during WWII, almost like a popular tale

This is the best 2024 release I’ve seen this year so far and we’re in the middle of December 2024. Most of the plot happens in a forest, so typical for the aforementioned popular tales, turning around a pair of woodcutters adopting a Jewish baby girl who has been thrown off a deportation train crossing their forest.

On the technical side all is done perfectly too

She was thrown off by her father to save her from certain death in Auschwitz. I won’t go further into details of the plot so you can see them by yourself, I just want to add the film will come to a deeply philosophical conclusion.

The movie’s visuals are outstandingly done

The drawing style is just right, not too detailed nor too rough, mostly showing scenes in weak lighting with dominating shades of grey, thus underlining the horrors of the most infamous war and occurrence of mass extermination in human history. And then the soundtrack which is sublime: The musical score, the sound effects, the narration and the voice acting (I saw the original version in French), all totally appropriate to present this gem of a film.

In conclusion it’s one of the best movies treating the subject of racism and particularly the Shoah, by its artistic procedure and the story it wants to tell

When maple syrup farmer Ruth Landry has her livelihood attacked by greedy competitors who were once her friends, she hatches a plan to get revenge and shake up the industry. I want to start by mentioning that I went into this show with medium to low expectations, so there were no major disappointments or any real surprises.

I knew about the real maple heist, I saw the preview, and I thought it would be a fun watch

And it can be a fun watch, if you like bad Fargo heists by people who don’t understand any of the functional ingredients of Coen brother films. And I guess you could say that all the little elements they’ve pilfered from other films could be homages and tips of the hat, if they didn’t feel so awkwardly and inappropriately confident in their own uniqueness.

It’s someone else’s work being rehashed over and over again

There’s a certain smugness to the writing and directing that, frankly, isn’t deserved. It’s the end of the game of telephone, and the catchphrase is almost unrecognizable.

Mean, homely, bad-ass, weird-bad-ass

The only real appeal of the show, the one that kept me watching, was the cast. They give it 100%, even if all the characters are the same archetypes these actors always play these days.

Certain cast members can’t seem to escape the cast that’s trapped them
