Why, why do they always insist on one teen character who is constantly angry and irrational? That has *never* benefited any TV show. Zoe Saldana’s daughter is a complete stereotype, every pathetic, angry teen tropes rolled into one character. One minute you’re watching a show about secret agents in the Middle East, the next you’re subjected to endless scenes of family turmoil caused by one selfish teen who *no one in the world cares about*. My advice: fast-forward through every scene she appears in. They add absolutely nothing – zero – nada – zilch to the plot. Skipping them will do wonders for your blood pressure.

I had the chance to see this movie at a preview screening, and I’m glad I didn’t have to pay for it, because it was really mediocre. Vulgarity is omnipresent, which wouldn’t be a problem if there was at least some subtlety, but no, it’s just vulgarity for the sake of vulgarity, most likely aimed at pleasing a certain type of audience.

In short, there’s not much to say about this French comedy

Sure, Michele Laroque and Gérard Darmon are seasoned actors who have nothing left to prove, but what did they do in this disaster? The pleasant surprise, however, is the male lead, who I didn’t know before, but he gives a solid performance and adds a bit of value to the film.

Another thing I liked was the opening scenes with the kidnappers, which were well shot, but unfortunately the rest of the film didn’t follow suit

The film, based on the powerful performance of Fernando Torres as the matriarch Eunice, tells the horrors of the Brazilian dictatorship without being preachy or cruel

Adapted from the novel “I’m Still Here” by Marcel Rubens Paiva; The book is enhanced by its focus on the Paiva family and how each member is terrified and devastated by the disappearance of their father (played with deep affection by Selton Melo). By focusing on the human aspects and the sense of loss of people who have never received or responded to the disappearance of their loved ones, the script is even more powerful. The performances of the young actors are all top-notch – a rare feat in Brazilian cinema – but it is Fernando Torres’ incredibly restrained performance that really connects with you.

In a masterful work, she is compelling and moving without ever becoming melodramatic

This is the best Brazilian film in years, a gift from director Walter Salles (Central Station). Finally, watch out for a brief but powerful cameo by Fernando Montenegro (Oscar-nominated Central Station). "I’m Still Here" is a film to be cherished and cherished.
