Synopsis
Four turbulent decades during the Northern Ireland Rebellion. The real Dolores Price was married for two decades (1983-2003) to Irish actor Stephen Rea. During this period, Rea appeared in the film for which he is perhaps best known in the United States: the 1992 romantic thriller The Crying Game. In this film, Rea plays Fergus, an extremely reluctant and controversial member of the Irish Republican Army (IRA), the same organization Price was associated with for many years. The book Say Nothing is an excellent and accurate review of the Cause.
The show is dull and well-crafted art
The series follows the book very closely and communicates the main themes and tragic lessons of this brutal period of occupation. The choice of actors and actresses reflects the nature of the people the show is about. It manages to both inform and entertain and tells a rarely told story. The details of people and places are fantastic. One can marvel at the production values of each episode and the historicity of the production.
She turns out to be very nice
Little things like the brand of cigarettes or the presentation of the takeaway fish and chips combined with a certain character grabbing an Armalite AR18 was a really nice touch. The real Dolours Price was known to be funny and charming, and that shines through. A lot of the characters are very likable, even the ones you don’t think they should be. It is a very human story, humanly told. It helps a non-cooperative person understand the motivation behind someone taking up arms against another.
It wasn’t really about Catholics versus Protestants
It was just an arbitrary line drawn to divide the Irish working class and the working poor and pit them against each other. There was also a comment from another review about immigrants invading Ireland. There were immigrants who fought for a free and united Ireland. It was never about how to spell your last name or which church to pray at. It was about poor people fighting for equal rights and freedom, and that’s what this story is about, and the price paid for that fight.
To compare the influx of immigrants from troubled lands to Oliver Cromwell is to dishonor the names of those who suffered and sacrificed
When we turn against those seeking asylum or deny them comfort, we are no better than those who mocked and mocked our ancestors who left Ireland for other countries like America where the Irish were not welcome either.
