Synopsis
After the events of The Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin, makes a play to seize the reins of Gotham’s criminal underworld. took shape during the production of the film “The Penguin” Colin Farrell fought hard to get his version of The Penguin to smoke a cigarette in The Batman (2022), but it didn’t work out. In his own series, however, the character is depicted as an occasional cigarette user who prefers cigars.

The first episode is a direct sequel to Matt Reeves’ Batman and I imagine those who haven’t seen the latter will be a bit lost
But I watched The Batman a while back, and this show did an admirable job of quickly reacquainting me with where the movie left off, without getting bogged down in a didactic recap. It also restores the aesthetic and dark tone of the movie nicely, although there is much more of a sly lightness to the show than in the movie. As in Batman, Colin Farrell does an excellent job of portraying the Penguin as a stereotypical mafia "street guy:" uncouth, unholy, mercurial, and quick to violence; but also clever, cunning, and able to read people.
But so far, it’s off to a great start
The character may have nothing to do with the comic book version, but he is interesting in his own right. I have my doubts about the Penguin being shown as a teenager. and I don’t know if The Penguin’s plot is enough to last a whole season.
